Now the name of this blog, whilst cute and fitting, does have a history. And I think its time I told you all the story behind the messy chef.
I have always been, what my mum would say “a grot” but if you ask me, I wasn’t THAT bad, just not good at keeping my mess inside of my area.
The same thing occurred when I first started helping mum and dad in the kitchen. Me and oil were not good friends, and neither was the electric mixer and myself. Both ended in disaster almost every single time.
Imagine a crime scene, but it was chocolate cake batter up the walls and hand printed on cabinet doors.
I would love to say as I got older, I grew out of it but sadly, this story doesn’t have a fairy-tale ending…
Whilst I no longer leave chocolate handprints on the furniture, I do get carried away with preparation and end up with flour, eggs, milk, cocoa powder and sugar everywhere.
But I like to consider this the fun of cooking, or baking, or simply making a sandwich. You are creating something, so things are bound to get a little bit crazy.
Think back to your younger years making projects for primary school, there was always a little mess to ensure the finished product looked 100 per cent – the same rule applies when whipping up a storm.
I adore cooking and baking as an adult now purely because it brings out this inner-child and allows me to reminisce on the days where my mum had to wash the chocolate off my face, and my dad had to wash the oil off the floor.
Creating meals and treats for yourself, friends and family doesn’t always have to be pristine and perfect, sometimes meals are imperfect and don’t always go to plan, but that’s when the journey is exceptional, and let’s be honest, a little bit of mess never hurt no one.
As always, stay messy!
